Global Education and Scholar Services

The GESS offers a broad range of services and activities for students, faculty and professionals at Gallaudet University with a view to maximizing their learning and expertise through the provision of qualitative opportunities to apply their knowledge internationally.

Additionally, there are various opportunities for visiting students, scholars, researchers and professionals who are interested in coming to Gallaudet University for an array of short-term programs.

English Language Institute

English Language Institute (ELI) provides full-time instruction in English as a second language, American Sign Language (ASL), cultural studies to international deaf and hard of hearing adults. Intensive study throughout the academic year (late August to mid-May) helps students become proficient in English in order to qualify for admission to Gallaudet or another U.S. University or to enhance their employment potential.

International Student Services

IS provides quality services to international students and scholars in terms of academic and personal matters, in a culturally-sensitive and friendly environment.

We provide a warm and informative welcome to international students to the globally unique environment of the Gallaudet University community.

We serve currently-enrolled international students who seek advice on academic matters, immigration regulations and other concerns.

We also serve as an information conduit to the entire campus community on immigration regulations as they affect currently-enrolled international students as well as those seeking to enroll.
