Mission
Gallaudet Leadership Institute, Professional Studies, and Enrichment Programs (GLIPSEP), a unit of the College of Professional Studies and Outreach, is dedicated to improving the quality of the personal and professional lives of deaf and hard of hearing individuals by (1) developing the leadership abilities of these individuals their families, and other individuals in their immediate and extended personal and professional communities, and (2) developing and enhancing the professional and leadership abilities of individuals who administer programs and services in deaf-centric and for-profit agencies and corporations.
Our vision is to: - Provide programming designed to enable deaf and hard of hearing individuals to reach their full potential in their chosen communities, both personal and professional.
- Use a multi-faceted approach to training and development, utilizing existing and emerging technologies, to deliver an array of personal, professional, and leadership program offerings.
- Extend our arrays of personal, professional, and leadership offerings globally through the University's network of regional programs.
Our Goals are to: - provide leadership development opportunities geared towards the needs of individuals working in for-profit and non-profit corporations and agencies;
- provide a flexible array of enrichment programs to meet the continuing learning needs of our deaf community in and outside of Gallaudet University;
- address the critical and growing shortage of certified and qualified leaders to serve in schools and programs for the deaf, and social service agencies, especially those from under-represented ethnic populations;
- provide a flexible array of education and training modules designed to respond to individual needs identified through surveys of potential constituencies;
- provide the flexibility and resourcefulness needed to address the specific in-service education/training needs of agencies and corporations (e.g., Federal Government, private corporations) that might contract for those services;
- develop individual and community advocacy skills and leadership abilities essential to enhancing the quality of life of deaf people in the United States,
- develop and offer an array of continuing education courses through online, extension, and hybrid formats; and
- develop and implement an array of possible delivery options to meet the diverse learning needs of potential constituencies, including online courses, distance education courses and seminars, regional weekend programs, institutes at Gallaudet and through the consortium of regional programs, and other innovative and hybrid approaches.
